My second novel of 2012 is "A Game of Thrones" by George R.R. Martin. This is the first story in his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. For many reasons, this book is not for the faint of heart. First, it is 800 pages. Not a huge deal, except that after 800 pages Martin draws a nice conclusion yet completely sets you up for the sequel. Which means that after finishing the first mammoth book you still have thousands of pages of the series ahead. Also, George R.R. Martin's writing style is very cyclical. He develops a really interesting story line filled with burning questions... of which he politely answers your questions, only to then reveal six new ones. I found I could only read about 75 pages at a time without getting light-headed. Lastly, the book is highly entertaining but extremely graphic. How HBO created it into a TV series, I'm curious and nervous to see. If you took out all the war and pillaging, deceit and treachery from this book you'd be left with the words "the," "it," and "henceforth."
I'm going to take a short fantasy hiatus before returning to Book #2. But I will get back to it. These books are pretty darn impossible to put down.
